Comrade Teargaskov
Comrade Teargaskov spent his entire adult life in the service of the Soviet Union. In 1986, a subordinate officer discovered his enormous collection of vhs tapes. As the collection was comprised entirely of US television shows, complete with advertisements, Teargaskov’s loyalty was called into question.
Over the ensuing year, it became clear that Teargaskov would have to choose between the television he loved and the country he had sworn to protect.
Teargaskov left his homeland and began a career as a TV critic for the soon-to-be-defunct Traverse City Record-Eagle. For years he toiled happily, often writing reviews that weren’t assigned to him simply because he loved doing it.
Over the last decade, Teargaskov began to notice a creeping dissatisfaction with his once-loved television. Convinced that his lack of affection for television was due to the increasing length of commercial breaks, he purchased a brand new TV and ordered a TiVo.
At first, he was much happier with the “TV sans- Advertising” formula. But within months, he began to realize that something was missing.
Good ads are an integral part of the TV experience. Bad ads are thirty second illustrations of why TV is largely a failed medium. Comrade Teargaskov has dedicated the twilight of his career to sharing his perspective on television advertising.
