Sofia Coppola’s Miss Dior Chérie Commercial

The good, the bad, and the ugly rule certainly applies to directors of television commercials. Sometimes film directors regress back to directing the television commercial.  An exemplar of the bad and the ugly is McG, a director whose work includes commercials for MLB Baseball, The Gap, Coca-Cola; music videos for Smash Mouth, Korn, Sugar Ray, The Offspring; and, unfortunately,  McG’s success in with music videos and television commercials lead to his ugly career as a film director, namely directing the atrocity that is Terminator Salvation (2009), and McG plans to deface the Terminator franchise futhermore with his pending release of Terminator 5 — moreover, McG failed at life when he decided to go by the name “McG.” WTF, does this guy wear a Slipnot mask on-set or a KFC bucket on his head like Buckethead?

On the other hand, we have good directors, directors like Sofia Coppola (The Virgin Suicides (1999), Lost in Translation (2003), and Marie Antoinette) who dabble in television commercials. Coppola directed the above ad for Christian Dior’s Miss Dior Chérie fragrance; the commercial embodies elegance, youth, and all that is the vogue. The pretty girl in the spot is Maryna Linchuk and features the song Moi Je Joue by Brigitte Bardot.

Love it — it’s cute, classy, and you smell the fragrance.
